Giant Traveling Map of Pacific Ocean Comes to St. Matthew's
Students will dive into the wonders of the Pacific Ocean with one of the world’s largest maps of the world’s largest ocean. The map, measuring 26 feet by 35 feet, will give our student explorers a fun, interactive experience through rich content and exciting activities that enliven the study of geography.

The brightly colored, smooth vinyl surface of the map will introduce St. Matthew’s students to explore some of the unexpected geography at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean: from the deepest place on earth, the Mariana Trench, to the world’s tallest mountain, Hawaii’s Mauna Kea, which has its base on the ocean floor. Most of all, students will experience the Pacific as a living entity, with active volcanoes giving birth to new islands, deep sea vents supporting new life forms, phytoplankton blooms providing over half of the planet’s fresh air, and the Great Barrier Reef, the largest living structure in the world.

National Geographic’s Giant Traveling Maps program was introduced in 2006 with a map of Africa created after National Geographic magazine’s 2005 special issue devoted entirely to that continent. Since then the program has expanded to include maps of North America, Asia and South America, Europe, and the Pacific Ocean.
The opening of St. Matthew's Hall in September launched a new era for Mustang Athletics; a home court for team sports and welcoming, spacious play areas for P. E. classes that support the next generation of Mustangs.

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School and the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew in San Mateo celebrated the opening of St. Matthew’s Hall, located at the corner of El Camino Real and Baldwin Avenue with a ceremonial Ribbon Cutting this past fall. The opening of St. Matthew’s Hall is an historic occasion in the life of the School and Church, as it marks the completion of state-of-the-art classroom facilities, a gymnasium, Library, Maker Lab, along with the beautification of the existing property.

The opening of St. Matthew’s Hall completes the second phase of an enhancement and expansion project that began in 2012. The new Early Childhood Center at Charles House – located at the corner of Second Avenue and El Camino Real – opened in September of 2013. This new building will enable St. Matthew’s Episcopal Day School to grow enrollment to meet growing demand for their education. Enrollment will grow each year beginning this school year with two classes each in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Sixth Grade until full enrollment is reached in 2019. St. Matthew’s has educated students for over sixty years, providing children in Preschool through Eighth Grade an academically enriched education in heart, mind, body, and spirit. This historic event is the beginning of the church’s celebration of 150 years in San Mateo. The celebration will continue through 2015.
